Why an Armed Security Officer Is Required
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) operates within a unique security environment. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) established the DCA Access Standard Security Program (DASSP) to allow qualifying general aviation operations to access DCA while meeting enhanced federal security requirements.
For qualifying operations under DASSP, an Armed Security Officer (ASO) is an important part of the required security framework. ASOs are specially trained law-enforcement officers authorized by TSA to travel aboard general aviation aircraft operating into or out of DCA.
DASSP incorporates multiple coordinated security measures, including advance authorization, passenger and crew vetting, manifest submission, screening procedures, and approved gateway operations. The ASO functions as part of this broader aviation-security process.
Trained. Vetted. Prepared.
An ASO is more than an armed professional assigned to a flight. The role exists within a federally controlled aviation-security program requiring appropriate qualifications, authorization, vetting, and specialized training.
The objective is straightforward: meet the security requirements associated with qualifying access to DCA while maintaining a professional, discreet, and properly coordinated travel experience.
Nationwide Service Area
ASO services available nationwide for qualifying flights operating into or out of DCA.
